Shakespeare week to get children interested in the Bard
The first ever Shakespeare Week, an initiative designed to help primary school children learn about the playwright and his cultural legacy, will be held in March 2014. Pupils will receive a ‘Passport for Shakespeare’ to encourage them and their families to explore cultural heritage outside the classroom, while a raft of relevant online materials will be made available to teachers for use across the curriculum in what is hoped will become an annual event. Shakespeare’s Birthplace Trust, the charity that cares for Shakespeare heritage sites in Stratford-upon-Avon, is running the inaugural week to coincide with 450th anniversary of the Bard’s birth. It will be launched on 16 April by Education Secretary Michael Gove.
