Stanley Arts

The role is directly responsible for  Stanley Arts’ capital, financial and development strategy & execution; while providing oversight and guidance to all operational aspects of the charity; including shaping  the overall artistic programme.

The CEO will report quarterly to the Board of Trustees, engage with multiple board  sub-groups and engage on a more regular basis with the Chair & Treasurer of the charity as required. 

Key Responsibilities 

Capital

  • With the support of our Senior Fundraising Manager and Board, deliver a large scale  capital development programme at Stanley Arts over the next 3 - 5 years.
  • Maintaining & protecting the heritage of our historic grade 2 listed building. 
  • Support the Senior Fundraising Manager in developing & delivering a successful capital fundraising campaign.
  • Lead the consultation and client-side design process to develop the details of future  capital plans.
  • Lead on the recruitment of the capital design team and any contractor  tendering process.

Strategy

  • Shape & ensure the delivery of a dynamic & financially-sustainable business plan  which further diversifies Stanley Arts’ income streams. 
  • Shape the overall fundraising strategy of Stanley Arts with the support of the Senior  Fundraising Manager.
  • Shape the artistic strategy of Stanley Arts; and oversee the delivery and planning of  the programme as led by the Senior Producer. 
  • (This includes driving improvements in ambition and quality and foregrounding the importance  of diversity, innovation & experimentation across all artforms. Key current artistic themes for SA  include dance, participatory work & work that combines heritage engagement with artistic  expression. )
  • Shape the evaluation and monitoring strategy with the support of the  Data Administrator; ensuring it provides actionable insights to staff, trustees, key  stakeholders and major funding partners - including ACE. 
  • Shape the overall audience and community engagement strategy for Stanley Arts,  as designed and delivered by the Marketing Manager, seeking to further diversify the  range of audiences, participants and artists. 
  • Shape the learning and engagement strategy of Stanley Arts, as designed and delivered by the Learning & Engagement Manager. 
  • (Key focuses for our L&E programme include children & young people, older people and heritage  engagement.)

Leadership

  • Lead the senior management team of Stanley Arts providing regular oversight,  support and guidance.
  • Provide leadership on promoting inclusive programming & recruitment practices  across SA. 
  • Line-manage the General Manager, Senior Fundraising Manager, Senior Producer,  Learning & Engagement Manager, and Data Administrator providing regular oversight,  support & guidance.
  • Actively seek the ideas & views of all staff, stakeholders and freelancers, integrating  this input into the day-to-day management approach & future strategic planning. 

Relationships

  • Represent Stanley Arts in local, regional and national public forums. 
  • Maintain & develop our relationship with Arts Council England as a new member of  the National Portfolio, ensuring our risk ratings stay low. 
  • Maintain and develop relationships with Croydon Council and the GLA at both officer  and political levels.
  • Provide sector leadership as part of local & regional partnerships to help shape  culture & heritage across Croydon and wider South London. This includes playing a key role in the LBoC legacy group for the local culture sector; Culture Croydon.
  • Maintain and deepen relationships with resident arts organisations, artists, regular  building users and other members of the ‘Stanley Family’. 
  • Collaborate with local and regional cultural and community organisations to share learning on green capital investment & sustainable practice.
  • Maintain & develop collaborative relationships with partner organisations and artists in the dance, queer arts, youth arts, global majority arts, disability arts, community  arts and heritage engagement sectors. 
  • Develop a peer review network to help externally measure the ambition & quality of  SA’s artistic programme.
  • Maintain & develop relationships with major funders & stakeholders including National Lottery Heritage Fund, Historic England and Paul Hamlyn Foundation.

Finance

  • Manage the overall organisational budget and track income and expenditure against  agreed targets.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting for trustees and auditors.
  • Oversee the financial processes of SA ensuring appropriate robust methodologies.

Targets & Reporting

  • Prepare a quarterly CEO report, finance papers and the Activity Report for the board  of trustees.
  • Report in person to the board of trustees at board and sub-group meetings.
  • Set out long term & interim targets on the Quality & Ambition of the programme.
  • Provide an annual report of progress on Quality & Ambition targets to the full board of trustees & ACE.

Essential Attributes

  • Experience of senior leadership within an arts or heritage organisation
  • Experience of financial management and processes

Salary: £55 - 60k (depending on experience)
Hours: Full time - 40 hours per week (incl. lunch breaks)
Holiday: 30 days during each holiday year. This includes the usual 8 public holidays in England and Wales. On 1 April after the first year of employment, you will be entitled to earn an extra day per year, up to a maximum of 5 days’ per year
Probation: 3 months’ probation during which four weeks’ notice required
Notice: Following successful completion of probation, three months
