Job Title: Production Manager
Reports to: Artistic Director & CEO
Responsible for: Programming Dance
Period: for 30 days over a period of 8 months
Place of work: Hybrid for 12 of those days in location.
Pay: £6,000
About Kala The Arts
Kala The Arts is an Arts in education charity based in Hampshire. An award-winning dynamic Arts in Education charity, we are also a national portfolio organisation of Arts Council England. For over 26 years we have created and delivered South Asian Dance workshops, training programmes, productions, performances, workshops, and exhibitions across the South West region.
We push the boundary of South Asian Dance with artistic research, performances and productions. From grassroots origins to international audiences, we work with local, national and international artists, producing high-quality dance projects, developing artistic careers and improving wellbeing for our participants. Founded by our Artistic Director Sushmita Pati, Kala The Arts has shared South Asian dance forms with over 383 schools and communities from our base in Hampshire. We also create new professional pieces of work for touring to arts venues, outdoor spaces and festivals, non traditional spaces. We deliver renowned workshops and performances that bring Odissi to thousands of new audience members every year.
The opportunity
The Production Manager will take a lead on the producing dance projects and creatively working alongside Kala’s Artistic Director and CEO.
They will need considerable knowledge and experience of programming Arts outdoors, and in venues and spaces both traditional and non- traditional, dance and related arts, and also of working on booking shows at different locations ensuring full compliance with all the relevant legislation.
Job Description and Requirements
- Considerable experience in creatively working on large and medium sized productions and knowledge of programming Arts and dance.
- Work with Kala The Arts to put together and deliver Kala’s programmes.
- Liaise and attend meetings with other cultural arts organisations, dance organisations, outreach and promoting KTA at those networks.
- Undertake all relevant administration including correspondence with artists, venue, partners, and suppliers.
- Attend all meetings related to the job.
- On site safety during the performances, and workshops, ensuring the safety and security of performers, participants and the public.
- Implementing all the company’s procedures and policies.
- Implementing safety, health, environment and quality requirements.
- Physical ability to handle staging equipment.
Person Specification
- Considerable knowledge of performing arts and experience in programming dance.
- Previous experience of production manager for a dance organisation.
- Demonstrable experience of project and production management of mid-scale and large events.
- Experience of managing events and being responsible for and implementing safety, health, environment and risk assessments.
- Experience of working within operations and event production, both indoor and outdoor festivals and events.
- A team worker and troubleshooter.
- Strong and proven administrative skills.
- A positive attitude and willing to succeed.
- Ability to self-manage and self-motivate.
- A collaborative attitude and ability to work within a small, committed team.
- Flexibility, commitment and the ability to multitask.
- Excellent communication skills and networking skills.
