A giant image of naked people set against the backdrop of the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art and The Sage Gateshead is set to greet international travellers, thanks to Newcastle International Airports sponsorship of an exhibition at Baltic of the work of New York-based contemporary artist Spencer Tunick.
One of the artists images from a large-scale UK installation, which captured 1,700 unclothed participants in various formations along the Newcastle Gateshead Quays in July last year, has been installed within the international arrivals area of the airport. A grant from the Arts & Business New Partners scheme has supported the presentation of the work at the airport. The Spencer Tunick show at Baltic opened to the public on 21 January and attracted a record 10,000 visitors in its first week. It runs until 26 March.
