ACE announces new Area Council members for London
Arts Council England has named four new members to its London Area Council.
SAM MARTIN and ANTHONY OKEREKE were both nominated by London Councils in October and November, respectively, and are joined by BRITANNIA MORTON, who became a member in November, and ANNE MULLINS, who began her term on 1 January this year.
Currently, Liberal Democrat deputy leader of Sutton Council and shadow executive member for communities at London Councils, Martin has previously worked in communications and development. An advocate for local libraries, he also co-organises a community music festival.
Okereke is Labour leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, where he was also co-founder of the London Community Land Trust. He is chair of Local London, a trustee of the Royal Parks and a member of the Safer & Stronger Communities board at the Local Government Association.
Since 2010, Morton has been executive director and co-chief executive of Sadler’s Wells. Previously, she held posts at the Southbank Centre, the Barbican, the Royal Albert Hall and English National Opera.
Mullins recently served as head of arts and culture for the HS2 construction programme. Her previous roles include head of culture for the Nine Elms Vauxhall Partnership, director of the creative health organisation Vital Arts, and director of North Kensington Arts.
MICHELLE WALKER, London area director at Arts Council England, said: “We are delighted to welcome Sam Martin, Anthony Okereke, Britannia Morton and Anne Mullins to our London Area Council.
“Each brings invaluable experience to our council, whether that be from local government or arts and culture, at scales ranging from grassroots community initiatives to major organisations. Together, their expertise will be instrumental in helping us deliver our strategy, Let’s Create, across the capital.”
