EMYR AFAN has been announced as the new chair of Anthem Music Fund Wales, succeeding DAVID ALSTON, who established the charity in 2018 following a Welsh government report exploring ways to support young people’s music-making and learning in Wales

A musician, former recording artist and classically trained tenor, Afan is currently CEO of Welsh TV production company Afanti Media – formerly Avanti Media.

Previously, he founded the Pop Factory, a music and media complex in Porth, which broadcast a weekly TV show of the same name in the early 2000s.

Afan said: “I have long admired the values and purpose of Anthem along with the tenacity and vision of chief executive RHIAN HUTCHINGS. If only this sort of provision was available when I was a young musician.”

Hutchings added: “I am really excited about working with Emyr. He is someone who is dedicated to making change for young musicians and truly understands their journey having experienced it himself. He believes in Anthem’s vision and is ready to do what it takes to make it a reality.”
