Arts Council of Wales appoints Director of Arts

Arts Council of Wales has named  CATRYN RAMASUT as Director of Arts, who will take up the newly created post in October this year.

Ramasut has been Co-founder and Managing Director of  ie Productions since 2006, producing content showcasing Welsh Culture.

She serves as Chair of Creative Wales, is a board member of the Chapter Arts Centre Wales’s representative on the Department of Culture Media and Sport's Creative Industries Council. 

DAFYDD RHYS, Chief Executive of Arts Council of Wales, said: “Catryn brings extensive experience from the arts sector as well as the creative industries and her energy and dedication to creativity and serving the wider communities of Wales will be a great asset. 

“In a period full of challenges, Catryn's core ideas and principles, as well as her far-reaching vision, will ensure firm and adventurous leadership for the arts in Wales”.

Ramasut added: "Wales’s creative spirit is abundant, and I'm eager to harness the power of our rich cultural heritage while pushing boundaries and embracing new voices. From my experiences in film production and championing diversity in the creative industries, I've seen first-hand the transformative impact of the arts. 

“Now it's time to reimagine what the arts can do for Wales. Let's weave together our cultural threads, make arts accessible to all, and enhance wellbeing across our communities while also showcasing Welsh talent on a global stage. 

“Together, we'll create a vibrant, inclusive future for Welsh arts that truly reflects all of us, benefits every part of our society and contributes to a sustainable, prosperous Wales."
