Arts Council of Wales (ACW) has announced MAGGIE RUSSELL as Chair.

She will take up post on 1 April for an initial three year period, succeeding PHIL GEORGE, who has held the role since 2016.

As chair, Russell will be responsible for ensuring ACW’s policies and actions support the Welsh government’s wider strategic policies.

Russell has over thirty years’ experience in the arts sector, assuming several senior roles at BBC Wales.

Announcing the appointment, Wales’ Deputy Minister for Arts and Sport DAWN BOWDEN said Russell is a “welcome addition” to the arts council.

“Her appointment comes at a crucial time for the Arts Council of Wales, and I’m confident she will Chair the organisation through its Investment Review, which is already underway,” she added.

“It is an exciting and challenging time ahead,” Russell commented.

“I welcome the opportunity to support the ambition and creativity of the arts in Wales to make work that is open to all communities, representative of our nation and that will surprise, engage and inspire.”
