Baroness Margaret Hodge to head up independent review of Arts Council England
Culture Secretary LISA NANDY has announced that former Culture Minister Baroness MARGARET HODGE has been appointed lead reviewer of an independent review of Arts Council England.
Hodge served as Labour MP for Barking from 1994 to 2024 before becoming a member of the House of Lords.
She was Minister of State for Culture and Tourism from 2007 to 2008 and then from 2009 until Labour’s defeat in the 2010 general election.
Her roles in government included Junior Minister for disabled people, Minister for Universities, and Minister of State for Work.
Last week, Hodge was also appointed the UK’s anti-corruption champion.
“I am absolutely thrilled to be asked to lead the review of the arts council,” said Hodge.
“I am passionate about the rich contribution the arts can make to all of us, as individuals, in our communities and to the economy.
“I look forward to engaging with the arts council and with a wide range of stakeholders across the country as we consider the challenges and opportunities the arts council faces.”
Nandy said: “I am absolutely delighted that Baroness Hodge has agreed to take up this role. Her wealth of experience will help us to break down barriers to opportunity in arts and culture and give our young people the chance to shape their own future.”
