Dr STEVE BALL is joining Birmingham Arts School (BAS) as Director.

Beginning his career as a teacher, Ball has a professional background in drama and theatre education.

He has held senior positions in the arts and cultural sector over the past 20 years. As founding Artistic Director of Language Alive!, Ball led the organisation for 16 years as it grew to become a provider of educational theatre programmes for primary schools in Birmingham.

In 2001, he joined Birmingham City Council as Head of Arts, where he co-produced ArtsFest, the UK’s largest free arts festival at the time.

More recently, he was Birmingham Repertory Theatre’s Associate Director, where he led the education team to run a network of youth theatres, partnerships with schools and colleges, and ran a community engagement programme. He is also the current Chair of Drama and Theatre Education Alliance.

Ball said he is “delighted” to join Birmingham Arts School.

“I’m excited by the opportunity to ensure that every child and young person in the city has the opportunity to engage with the city’s amazing artists and cultural organisations.”
