Benslow Music has announced the resignation of Chief Executive Dr PETER COLLYER

The Hertfordshire-based music education charity said Collyer concluded “the role’s operational and strategic demands are incompatible with his preferred work-life balance”.

“He will be unable to devote himself to Benslow with the necessary dedication,” the statement adds.

With a background in music education, Collyer first worked as a teacher, lecturer and manager at University of Southampton. He went on to teach at Guildhall School of Music & Drama and Trinity Laban Conservatoire, before becoming Director of Performance and Performance Studies at the University of Oxford in 2020.

He then joined Benslow Music Trust as Head of Music, stepping up to Chief Executive in 2022.

Collyer also specialises in historical performance. He has freelanced with orchestras including the BBC Concert Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonia Orchestra, and played in West End shows and in commercial recording sessions.

He will stay in post until a replacement has been found, for which recruitment has already begun.

“We are grateful to Peter for all that he has done during his short tenure to ensure that Benslow remains operational through what has been a challenging time, and we wish him every happiness in the future,” Chair of Benslow PHILIP MEADEN commented.
