The London-based charity Work and Play Scrapstore, which repurposes waste and surplus goods as arts and crafts materials, has appointed JANE BATES as chair.

Bates has 30 years’ experience in supply chain and sustainability roles. Since 2020, she has worked as director of procurement and sustainability at the holiday park operator Parkdean Resorts.

Her role will include overseeing a “major digital transformation project” to streamline the charity’s systems and processes. Scrapstore said Bates will also lead work to expand the organisation’s revenue, deliver commercial value and build resilience.

Bates said it was a “privilege to be part of a wonderful charity with such an admirable ethos, fantastic volunteer support and the potential of such an exciting future”.

She added that she hoped to bring “a combination of leadership, collaboration, strategy, commerciality, motivational style and sustainability expertise” to “grow the circular economy together”.
