Expert panel to support cultural education plan

Government has appointed an expert advisory panel to oversee the development of its cultural education plan. 

Made up of professionals from across the education, cultural and creative sectors, the panel will advise the government on the delivery of the plan, which is expected to articulate and emphasise the importance of high-quality cultural education in schools.

It will also outline career progression pathways, address skills gaps and tackle disparities in opportunity and outcome by ensuring all young people can access high-quality cultural education.

The plan was first announced in the Department for Education’s Schools White Paper in March 2022 and was included as a key pledge in the government's creative careers promise, which forms part of the newly released Creative Industries Sector Vision. It is expected to be published later this year.

BARONESS BULL was announced as Chair of the panel last August.

Chief Executive of Star Academies, Sir HAMID PATEL, has now been named Vice-Chair Education, while UK Strategic Lead of What Next? LIZZIE CRUMP has been named Vice-Chair Culture.

Among the other panel members are Arts Council England Chief Executive DARREN HENLEY, Associate Director of Young People at London's Roundhouse TINA RAMDEEN, and Director of Learning and National Partnerships at Royal Shakespeare Company JACQUI O'HANLON.

Arts and Heritage Minister LORD PARKINSON said the panel "will help [the government] bring forward an ambitious plan to provide creative opportunities for all children and young people, and support our vision to maximise the potential of our creative industries".
