MICHAEL GARVEY has been appointed executive director of the Fantasia Orchestra, taking up the post this month.

In the newly-created role, Garvey will work alongside conductor and artistic director TOM FETHERSTONHAUGH to shape the development and artistic output of the orchestra for young British musicians.

Garvey has previously served as executive director of the Benedetti Foundation, director of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, chief executive of the Academy of Ancient Music and general manager of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. He will continue his freelance work alongside his new role.

“I’m very excited to be invited to work with Tom and the Fantasia musicians, supporting them as they look to realise some really ambitious growth plans,” said Garvey.

Fetherstonhaugh said he was “delighted” Garvey would be joining Fantasia, adding that his “visionary thinking and decades of leadership experience in the orchestral world” would be “a powerful combination for Fantasia” as it takes its next steps.
