Five new trustees announced for Tate
Five new trustees – NICK CLARRY, Sir ISAAC JULIEN, JACK KIRKLAND, JUNE SARPONG and TIM RICHARDS – have been appointed to the board of Tate.
Clarry is a managing partner at CVC Capital Partners, a global private equity firm. Over the last 20 years he has sought to provide philanthropic support to a number of organisations including The Old Vic, the British Film Institute and The Courtauld. He has served as chair at The Old Vic Theatre since 2014.
Julien has been making films and producing film installations for more than 40 years. In 2022 he was awarded a knighthood for services to diversity and inclusion in art.
A businessman and philanthropist, Kirkland is executive chair of Bowmer and Kirkland, one of the UK’s largest construction and real estate companies. He founded and chairs The Ampersand Foundation, a grant-giving charity focused on the visual arts. He is also a trustee of the Bridget Riley Art Foundation and was chair of Nottingham Contemporary from 2015 to 2020.
Television presenter and executive June Sarpong is co-founder of the Women: Inspiration & Enterprise (WIE) Network. In November 2019 she was appointed as the BBC’s first director of creative diversity, a role she held for three years.
Richards is founder and CEO of Vue Entertainment, the largest privately held cinema operator in Europe. In February 2021, after seven years as a governor of the British Film Institute he was appointed its chair. In 2024 he was awarded a CBE for his services to British film and cinema.
