CATHERINE JOHNS is joining Dance City, a Newcastle-based development organisation for dance, as Executive Director.

Johns joins from Kielder Observatory, where she worked as Chief Executive Officer. Prior to this, she was Director of North East Centre of Excellence for Satellite Applications, where she led the £100m development of North East Technology Park.

She also has professional experience in the cultural sector as a former advisor to Southpaw Dance Company and Dora Frankel Dance, and as a Director for arts-focused business support agency Generator North East.

According to Dance City's Artistic Director ANAND BHATT, Johns' skills and experience will be a “huge asset” to the organisation.

“She is hugely passionate about dance and incredibly knowledgeable about business – two perfect ingredients,” Bhatt added.

“Dance City has been a constant in my life, ever since I came to study at Newcastle University, from taking classes to enjoying memorable performances to working with the amazing dancers and choreographers based here in the North East,” Johns commented.

“I’m very much looking forward to supporting the team to develop the organisation.”
