Manager appointed to ‘reimagined’ role at Eyam Museum
EMMA MACBEATH is to become museum manager at Eyam Museum in Derbyshire, taking up the post in February 2025.
Describing the role as “reimagined”, the museum, which tells the story of the impact of the Black Death on the village of Eyam, has been run primarily by a board of directors, a small, part-time staff and volunteers since gaining charitable status in 1994.
MacBeath’s appointment comes as the museum considers possible redevelopment options to grow and engage audiences.
Currently Heritage Manager at the Pankhurst Museum, MacBeath has also held roles at Hampshire Museums Service, Winchester and Manchester Cathedrals and Leeds City Museum.
RICHARD COATES, chair of Eyam Museum, said, “Emma comes to us with a wealth of museum and heritage sector experience spanning 20 years, which will be invaluable as we continue to enhance what we offer to our visitors and the local community.
“She will help us to attract new visitors, especially from areas or groups who do not normally visit museums, continue to develop what we offer to schools, and ensure that visitors are provided with an informative, inspiring and fun experience.”
MacBeath added, “The history of Eyam made a lasting impression on me at school and I am very excited to have the opportunity of sharing that story and the museum collections with visitors and the local community.”
