CEO and Artistic Director of Exeter Northcott Theatre DANIEL BUCKROYD has announced he is stepping down.

He will leave in December to become Artistic Director of Garrick Theatre in Lichfield.

During his four-year tenure, Buckroyd directed a number of in-house productions, including the John Cleese farce Bang Bang, and the panto, Beauty & the Beast. Before leaving, he will direct this year’s panto, Robin Hood.

Buckroyd's work has focused on diversifying and increasing audiences to widen the theatre's range of local creative opportunities, including the launch of the Encompass Project, which works with Exeter’s Caribbean, Hindu and Polish communities.

“Without the dedication of the Northcott team, and the steadfast support of audiences, we wouldn’t have been able to bounce back from Covid with such confidence, and I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together,” Buckroyd said.

Co-Chairs of the Board BECKY CHAPMAN and DAVID BALCOMBE said the board is hugely grateful for Buckroyd's energy, vision and dedication to the Northcott Theatre.

“His ambition to raise the company’s profile and impact in Exeter and beyond has driven exciting new, inclusive thinking and inspired deep creative engagement in our teams and our communities," they added.

Northcott Theatre says it will soon begin the search for Buckroyd’s successor.
