Nottingham Contemporary art gallery has appointed PAUL KIRKMAN as its new chair of the board.
Before leaving to begin his current role as a freelance cultural consultant, Kirkman was director of the National Railway Museum from 2012 to 2017.
From 2005 he held various senior roles at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. Kirkman, who takes up post this month, has also worked at the Natural History Museum and HM Treasury, and is currently a trustee at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds.
The gallery’s new chair said he was “honoured” to take on the role, commenting that the institution “plays a vital role in fostering creativity and connecting people through contemporary art”.
Nottingham Contemporary director Salma Tuqman said she was “thrilled” to welcome Kirkman, saying his “extensive experience and leadership come at a transformative time”.
