JAMES HARDIE has been appointed the new chief executive of Scottish Ensemble, taking up post in January 2025.

He succeeds JENNY JAMISON, who became creative director for National Centre for Music in Edinburgh earlier this year after five years leading Scottish Ensemble.

Currently, he is executive director of The Marian Consort and music programmer at Norfolk & Norwich Festival. His previous work includes arts programming and production manager at The CLF Art Cafe and account manager at WildKat PR.

Chair MORAG BURNETT said, “James is a passionate advocate for the power of music. In the years ahead, his vision and energy will enable Scottish Ensemble to widen our reach and further strengthen our reputation and sustainability. We are delighted to welcome James home to Scotland and into his new role.”

Hardie added that he was “hugely excited” to have been appointed, adding, “I have long admired the daring and originality of this intrepid group of musicians and their pioneering cross-disciplinary work.”
