Three trustees reappointed to the National Gallery

The Prime Minister has reappointed Sir JOHN KINGMAN, TONYA NELSON and Professor MOLLY STEVENS as Trustees to the National Gallery for four-year posts.

Kingman is Chair of Legal & General Group, Tesco Bank and Deputy Chair of the National Gallery. As a former Second Permanent Secretary to HM Treasury, Kingman had responsibility for the Treasury’s economic ministry functions and policies relating to business, financial services and infrastructure. 

Kingman is also a member of the Trilateral Commission and a World Fellow of Yale University. 

Nelson was formerly Chair of the International Council of Museums (UK) and Bomb Factory Art Foundation. She worked for University College London for nine years, where she was appointed Director of Museums and Cultural Programmes. 

At present, Nelson is London Area Director at Arts Council England (ACE), responsible for managing a portfolio of more than 250 publicly financed arts institutions, including the National Theatre, Royal Opera House, and Southbank Centre. She first joined ACE as the first Director of Arts Technology and Innovation in 2019.

Nelson is on the board of Trustees for the Royal Collection Trust, preserving the Royal art collection and managing the public opening of the official residences of Her Majesty The Queen.

Stevens is a Professor within the Department of Materials and Bioengineering at Imperial College London. She attained a PhD in Single Molecule Biophysics and Surface Analysis from the University of Nottingham. 

She is a Fellow of the Royal Society, a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and a Foreign Member of the US National Academy of Engineering.
