VIVIANA CHECCHIA is the new Director of Void Gallery in Northern Ireland.

She took up post on Tuesday (9 May), succeeding outgoing Director MARY CREMIN

Checchia is a curator, programmer, and researcher. She joins Void from recent roles as Residency Curator at London-based Delfina Foundation and Senior Lecturer in Master of Fine Art at University of Gothenburg. She has also worked as Public Engagement Curator at the Glasgow’s Centre for Contemporary Arts and formerly co-directed Vessel, an international curatorial platformed in Puglia, South Italy.

Board member SEÀN KISSANE said: “She has a fantastic record of achievement in many fields, including the co-founding of ‘Vessel’ with its focus on socially engaged practice, public programming, commissioning, and writing,”

“Viviana has set out a very exciting vision for Void, and we eagerly anticipate seeing how this will evolve and develop in the coming years.”

“Art and its relationship with society is one of the catalysts that has informed my work to date,” Checcia said.

“I am excited to see what we can do at Void by way of this catalyst, with the locale and with the wide array of artists, curators and organisations connected to Void.”
