New guidance for Trustees on decision making

Trustees are being given guidance on making good decisions for their charities in a new guide issued by the Charities Commission. The Commission emphasises that it does not monitor ‘correct’ decision making by trustees but has set out the principles that trustees need to follow when making important decisions so that they can effectively fulfil their legal responsibilities and manage risks. This includes trustees acting within their powers, acting in the best interests of the charity and adequately informing themselves about relevant issues. The document also includes advice on resolving disagreements between trustees and explains when the commission might get involved in a dispute.
