Arts Council England Chair, Sir Christopher Frayling, who was due to leave in February next year, has had his appointment extended until February 2009 in order to avoid a situation where he would leave the organisation at the same time as Chief Executive, Peter Hewitt.
Interviews are currently being held to find a successor for Hewitt. An appointment is expected this autumn, with the new Chief Executive taking on the role in April of next year.
