A charity has pledged £750,000 to save a theatre in Berkshire.

Campaigners are currently trying to secure the future of Novello Theatre, formally The Picture House, in Ascot.

The BBC reports that confirmation a charity had stepped in to help was shared at a meeting of campaigners trying to secure the future of Novello Theatre, formerly The Picture House, in Ascot.

Earlier this year, the theatre was registered as an Asset of Community Value, giving local groups six months to raise funds before it could be offered on the open market.

The cost of purchase and structural repairs was estimated at £750,000, which the campaign group has said a local charity has “conditionally pledged”.

A spokesperson for the campaign group said the charity in question is conducting the necessary due diligence on the processes and operations that underpin the donation before it can be completely finalised.
