The jury for the Artes Mundi 9 has unanimously decided to award the prize to all six shortlisted artists.

The £60,000 prize was the largest ever awarded by the contemporary art competition to recognise the current “unique situation" faced by artists globally.

Firelei Báez (Dominican Republic), Dineo Seshee Bopape (South Africa), Meiro Koizumi (Japan), Beatriz Santiago Muñoz (Puerto Rico), Prabhakar Pachpute (India) and Carrie Mae Weems (USA) will each receive £10,000.

The jurors commented: “Each artist has demonstrated great resilience in overcoming the many, global obstacles that Covid-19 has presented.”

Work by all six winners is on display at National Museum Cardiff and Chapter until September 5.
