Arts Council of Wales shares plan for climate action
Arts Council of Wales (ACW) has published its first plan for climate justice and the arts.
The plan sets the vision of arts playing “a key role in inspiring the transformation we need to create a fairer world where people and nature can thrive”.
It is one of the results of a three-year partnership between ACW and Natural Resources Wales, known as the Creative Nature Programme.
The plan sets six key objectives, including creating opportunities for artists and communities to take part in conversations about climate justice issues, supporting knowledge sharing and training, enabling environmental sustainability in the arts sector and making ACW an exemplar organisation.
It then breaks down the objectives into aims, actions and outcomes to be carried out across the next ten years.
“We all need to take ownership of the climate and nature emergencies – our communities here in Wales are seeing the devasting impacts of climate change as well as communities around the world,” said Dafydd Rhys, ACW Chief Executive.
“We believe that the arts and the organisations we fund can play a significant role in addressing these emergencies through the power of the arts to connect and inspire.”
The funding body added that the plan is an integral strand of an overarching ten-year strategy, which is set to be published later this year.
