Annual data collected by the DCMS shows employment in the arts at the end of 2020 was comparable to 2019.

The cultural sector accounted for 1.5% of UK employment last year, up 0.1% on 2019.

The data is at odds with other estimates of falling employment in the arts and entertainment industries last year.

'Arts' jobs were 0.5% of UK jobs in both years. Employment in 'film, television and radio' fell by 0.1% to 0.4% of the population.

'Music, performing and visual arts', classed under the creative industries rather than the cultural sector, were 0.6% of jobs in both years.
