Leicester City Council is undertaking costly repairs on the Curve Theatre after a metal panel came loose and fell from the building earlier this year, Leicester Mercury reports.

A report commissioned by the council found the “blade” type structure, of which there are 700 on the exterior of the building, had fixings that had “failed in certain areas”.

Leicester City Council, which owns and rents out the 16-year-old building, will spend £2.2 m on work to remove and reattach each panel with additional fixings, with Mayor Peter Soulsby expected to sign off on the works in the coming weeks.

Last month, Curve CEO Chris Stafford warned the £61m building, designed by architect Rafael Viñoly, required investment.
