Coventry UK City of Culture Trust has released details of its first commissions since entering a legacy period following the city’s stint as UK City of Culture.

The trust says this work will build on the projects and learnings that took place during Coventry’s year as City of Culture and follows a summer of events including Generate Festival, Theatre Next Door and the Ukrainian Solidarity Festival.

The new commissions include Cosy Creative, a project which will run sustainable and creative activities in January in venues across the city. The project has been developed in response to the cost-of-living crisis and aims “provide a warm space to create and connect” for over 650 people.

A separate commission will see the launch of a Youth Advisory Leadership Programme, which plans to engage up to 15 young people in creative learning and youth-led campaign activity that explores the climate crisis and the role that arts and culture have in finding solutions.

A programme of events will run through to autumn with the aim of engaging more than 200 young people and welcoming over 1,000 audience members.

Alongside its local work, Coventry UK City of Culture Trust has been awarded £98,000 by the British Council to support international collaborations as part of its commissioning activity.

“We’re grateful for the commitment and investment of our partners which enables us to continue to support the city’s exceptional artists and organisations to build a better, greener future,” Commissioning Director of Coventry UK City of Culture Josie Bamford said.
