Curve Theatre CEO warns building needs repair
Chris Stafford, CEO of Curve Theatre in Leicester, has warned that the venue, which opened 16 years ago, is in need of investment.
Speaking at an event marking the publication of its annual review for 2023/24 on October 30, Stafford told attendees that despite Leicester Theatre Trust achieving a turnover of £14,808,108 in the last year, it was facing financial challenges, reports The Stage.
Stafford told attendees: “The miracle happened. We did break even, and we actually had a really good year-end result, financially.”
However, he warned that the £61m building, designed by architect Rafael Viñoly, required investment.
“We love this theatre,” Stafford said. “We are very lucky to be caretakers of a place like this. But it’s 16 years old, and it’s getting older, and things need fixing and replacing – and the things that need replacing are not cheap.
“It’s those challenges that we’re constantly acutely aware of.”
