Artists Teresa Margolles and Samson Kambalu will have their sculptures displayed on Trafalgar Square's fourth plinth after winning the latest commissioning competition.

The Fourth Plinth Commissioning Group chose the winners after almost 17,500 people voted for their favourite shortlisted designs.

Margolles' work depicts the faces of 850 transgender people and will go on display in 2024.

Kamalu's sculpture restages a 1914 photograph of European missionary John Chorley and Malawian Baptist preacher John Chilembwe, famous for leading an uprising against colonial rule which banned Africans from wearing headwear in front of white people.

It will replace Heather Philipson's 'The End' in September 2022.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said the sculptures are "shining a spotlight on important issues that our society continues to face".
