Education Secretary Gavin Williamson is angling for Wolverhampton to bid for the title of UK City of Culture 2025.

Williamson, who is MP for South Staffordshire, has reached out to Labour council leader Ian Brookfield about launching a bid, saying the area has "rich history and cultural diversity" that would make it an ideal candidate.

"This would not just benefit this dynamic and culturally diverse city but would also bring visibility, benefits, and opportunities to the West Midlands, including my own constituency of South Staffordshire."

Several cities have already put forward a bid: Bradford, Chelmsford, Southampton, Cornwall and Lancashire are all in the running.
