Performers’ union Equity has called on Bristol City Council to drop plans to cut hundreds of thousands of pounds from its arts and culture budget.

A letter sent to the council warns that cuts would do significant damage to jobs and cultural activities in Bristol.

The council’s finance sub-committee is due to meet this week to consider a range of proposals including the closure of the cultural investment programme, the closure of Blaise Museum, Georgian House Museum and Red Lodge Museum – all by 2027 – and reducing the opening hours of the Archives Search Room.
