New EU guidelines around Covid safety in the cultural sector say vaccination of its workers "should be promoted to ensure their and the public's safety".

The recommendations, which stop short of advocating priority status for cultural workers, also say institutions should require contact tracing for audiences and prepare protocols for when cases are detected.

"The lifting of all restrictions should be strategic and gradual," it adds.

Audiences and participants can be asked for proof of a negative Covid-19 test to enter, the EU says.

"Depending on the local circulation of variants, this requirement can be extended to fully vaccinated individuals."
