The future of a theatre based on a university campus in Northern Ireland is being considered amid concerns about maintenance costs.

Based on Ulster University’s campus in Coleraine, Riverside Theatre is open to members of the public as well as the university’s staff and student population.

During a meeting of Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council, the university’s vice-chancellor, Professor Paul Bartholomew, said he “cannot give any assurances” about the venue’s future.

He said the theatre’s future was “under review,” and it is “quite old now and requires a lot of capital infrastructure improvement”.

“We are looking at it in terms of how we would support that, so I am not in a position to give you that assurance, but it is something we are reviewing,” he added.
