The National Maritime Museum in Cornwall will close for six weeks so repairs to fix leaks in the building’s roof can take place.

A museum spokesperson told the BBC that attempts had previously been made to repair the roof, but no lasting solutions had been found.

The latest repairs will involve a complete replacement of the roofing system, additional drainage and weatherproofing”, the spokesperson said.

A £499,000 grant from the Arts Council’s Museum Estate and Development Fund enabled the work.

The closure will begin on 6 January, with the museum expected to reopen on 15 February.
