The Continuo Foundation has opened applications for a second wave of grants for period instrument ensembles after fundraising its £100,000 target.

The fund aims to “support a flourishing period instrument performance sector for the long term” by financing musicians and widening access to period music.

Grant applications will be accepted until August 9, with successful projects receiving between £2,000 and £10,000.

The first wave of funding saw £150,000 awarded to 23 ensembles in March and created 377 paid engagements for freelance musicians, according to the charity.

Founder Tina Vadaneaux said she was "delighted" the second launch target had been reached and confirmed 100% of any donations received before September 1 will be added to the fund.
