Plans for a £23m 'creative hub' in Yeovil have been agreed in principle by South Somerset District Council.

The scheme would see the transformation of The Octagon Theatre to include a 900-seat auditorium with a flexible orchestra pit and full flying facilities. An extension would house two more spaces for 124 people and 64 people, with the technology for screening live events.

Community projects that would have a home there would include Arts on Prescription, Active Communities, Children and Young People's Programme as well as Arts and Dementia.

The Council believe planning and construction could take up to three years and the scheme will be subject to sign-off from councillors on business plans, finance plans and planning permission.
