Four cultural venues in Somerset are under consideration to receive a share of a £5m government grant.

In March, the government invited Somerset Council to apply for £5m cultural funding for projects in the east of the county.

Somerset Council has confirmed that the Amulet Theatre in Shepton Mallet is in the running for a share of this grant. The venue closed in 2022, but residents have been campaigning to reopen it as a working theatre.

It joins three other applicants on the shortlist: the Wise Children theatre company, the Somerset Rural Life Museum in Glastonbury, and the Cheese and Grain venue in Frome.

Somerset Council expects a final decision from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government by Christmas.
