Theatres on ‘at risk’ register receive grants totalling £75k
Theatres in England and Wales on the Theatres At Risk Register have been awarded grants totalling nearly £75,000.
The funding has been awarded as part of The Theatres Trust’s Resilient Theatres: Resilient Communities programme, now in its third round.
The 10 recipients include Derby Hippodrome (£8,750), Doncaster Grand (£6,000), Margate Theatre Royal (£5,325) and Morecambe Winter Gardens (£8,760).
The largest grants of £10,000 were awarded to Swindon’s Mechanics’ Institute and Oswaldtwistle Civic Arts Centre and Theatre.
Theatr Ardudwy in Harlech, north Wales received a grant of £8,000.
Work funded by the grants includes condition surveys, business planning, fundraising and audience development strategies, a viability study and a governance review.
Joshua McTaggart, CEO of Theatres Trust, said: “All the theatres on our Theatres at Risk Register are special buildings that have real potential to bring joy and opportunities to their communities.
“We are thrilled to support 10 of these fantastic theatres with essential strategic projects that will lay the foundations for their revival.”
