Theatres raise concern over offshore immigration centres
A coalition of theatre companies have written to Priti Patel, raising concerns about proposed offshore immigration centres due to be tabled in the House of Commons this week.
The letter, signed by the Theatre Companies of Sanctuary network, asks the Home Secretary to "urgently reconsider" plans to introduce the legislation.
"As theatre makers, we are trained to interpret the underlying meaning of words, both spoken and written," the letter continues.
"That is also why we support people seeking sanctuary to reconnect with their own voice and tell their own stories."
Rosie McPherson, Artistic Director of network member Stand and Be Counted Theatre added: "The UK can, and should, do better".
