Worcester City Council is in negotiations to buy the 100-year-old Scala Theatre in the city and transform it into a new arts, theatre and music venue.

Worcester was successful with its £18m bid last year to the government’s Future High Streets Fund. Ths included plans for a 'northern quarter' that will be regenerated to create an ‘urban neighbourhood’ as a destination for young people and families. As well as the arts venue and cultural facilities, the plans include new shops, cafes and family-friendly attractions together with housing and office space.

A £4.5m project is already underway to transform the city’s arches into another cultural hub for creative businesses and the arts.
